Mary Buergin

A native of Buffalo, NY, Mary Buergin received her degree in Fine Arts from Buffalo State College.   She began her career working as an illustrator for an advertising agency in Buffalo. She also worked as a fashion illustrator and ran her own interior design company for ten years, doing both commercial and residential design. Mary moved to NH in 1992, and to Maine in 2013.   She spends most of her time painting the New England landscape both in the studio and en plein air.  In addition to painting, she has been teaching oil and pastel painting for over 20 years.

"When looking at a landscape, an artist is sensitive to subtle colors, lighting, mood and an inherent composition. These elements combine to create an emotion which is the essence of the scene....it is why we want to paint that place at that particular moment.  When I feel I have captured this emotion, I consider the work to be a success. I choose my subjects by what captivates me and I want to share them with others so that they too can see something unique that they may not have had the opportunity to see.”

Buergin exhibits in national, regional and local shows, juried competitions and gallery shows. Her work has been recognized through many awards and is included in numerous private and public collections throughout the United States and Europe. Her work was featured in the December '08 issue of American Artist Magazine.

She is a member of the New Hampshire Pastel Society and the Boothbay Regional Art Foundation.
