Saltwater Artists Gallery, of New Harbor, is excited to have made a donation to Midcoast Humane after its “Dog Days of Summer” art show. Gallery members and customers purchased glass “doggie magnets” to fund the donation. The cute magnets were created and donated by Saltwater Artists Gallery member and glass artist Pamela Wilcox, of Belgrade. One hundred percent of sales of the glass magnets were donated to Midcoast Humane, located in Brunswick.

On hand to receive a check for $250 and a glass doggie magnet were Dante Granatiero, Midcoast Humane’s grants coordinator, and Kate McHugh-Westfall, the volunteer manager.

Granatiero and McHugh-Westfall shared that Midcoast Humane serves 40 communities and over 150,000 residents from Falmouth to Washington and cares for close to 4,000 animals per year. Granatiero said that Saltwater Artists Gallery’s donation can assist with a variety of needs such as pet food, medical supplies, and even keeping the office and outreach programs going.

When asked about other contributions needed for the rescued pets cared for by the organization, McHugh-Westfall piped up with “towels and flat bed sheets.”

Major needs of Midcoast Humane are donations and volunteers. Beyond financial support, the following items are always needed: towels, flat bed sheets, blankets, dye-free dry cat and dog food, tuna, collars, leashes, treats, animal toys, nonclumping litter, and pet-safe heating pads. Find more items on Midcoast Humane’s wish list at midcoasthumane.org/donate/donate-supplies. The organization is thrilled to have contributions!

Also, Midcoast Humane is looking for good homes for their fur babies: young, middle-aged, and seniors. There will be an adoption event at the Central Lincoln County YMCA in Damariscotta from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12.
