Kate Miller

Kay Miller is a “late bloomer” to the art field, finding more time for art since retiring from 35 years of teaching in 2001.  She discovered that it is easier traveling around the world with a sketchpad and pastels than watercolors. An international incident almost occurred when British airport officials detained her to search watercolor tubes for explosives while returning from a Fulbright Teacher Exchange in Derbyshire! She continued drawing as she and her husband Dick traveled and taught in Mexico, Singapore, and Kyrgyzstan.  Her favorite Krygy instructor in Bishkek charged $2. per week for 9 hours of art instruction in Russian!

After returning to the States and renovating their South Bristol cottage she took classes at the Round Top Center for the Arts in several different mediums.  She was particularly excited with the print studio and explored monotypes, collographs, and etching with Frances Hodsdon, Lee Nessler, and Lois Anne.  After RTCA became River Arts moving to Main Street and removing the printing equipment, she helped Frances Hodsdon revive the studio with other equipment, renaming it The Midcoast Printmakers, Inc. where she continues printing and teaching classes.  She also exhibits at the Boothbay Region Art Foundation in Boothbay and the Harlow Gallery in Hallowell.
