Victoria Curtis

I am an encaustic artist with a focus on abstracts, landscapes, and seascapes. Encaustic medium is made up of refined beeswax and tree resin tapped from the damar tree which is native to Asia. This is melted together and mixed with natural pigments. Because the medium must be molten for it to be usable, my paintbrush is a blowtorch, and my palette is a hot plate!

Encaustic medium plays well with oil and water-based mediums, most of my paintings include oil paint and alcohol ink as well as other mixed media. My studio also doubles as a wood shop where I make all my frames by hand.

I grew up in Boothbay Harbor, Maine and traveled around the country before landing back on the coast of Maine and have been living here for the past 12 years. I paint or am inspired by locations around Maine, areas that I feel connected to.

If you’d like to come by my studio to learn about encaustic painting, frame making, or to see some work in person please contact me at vcurtis123@gmail.com!
